Compressing with Super©

IF your video is standard definition and less than 9 minutes long you do not need to compress it before uploading to YouTube, otherwise read on ...

Download the program

Getting Super©  (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer) is free - but a longwinded process.
1. Go to the website of its creators www.erightsoft.com  to download the program. Do not risk downloading it from other websites. There is a toolbar in the middle of the screen. Click on "FreeWare". At the drop-down list which appears click on "Super©". Another drop-down list appears. On it click "Download":

2. Be careful. The download page has advertisements which are automatically placed there by Google. (The adverts are a way for the creators of the program to get a little money to pay for the website.) Google tries to place adverts which are relevant to the page ... which means that confusingly there is often an advert for a rival video file converter!

Look for a text link:

3. This goes to a new page which starts with another confusing Google advert and then gives a long list of the program's virtues. Scroll a little down this page until you see the warning box which is followed by a text link.

Click on "download and use".

4. This leads to another page packed with more information about the program. Scroll right to the bottom of the page and look for the download link just after yet another confusing advert:The final Super download link.
5. At last you are there! When you click that link your browser will offer a chance to open or save the file.

Always choose to save such files. When prompted to do so navigate to a folder on your computer where you will be able to find the file easily. It is called SUPERsetup.exe - though you may not see the ".exe" part depending how your Windows system has been setup.

Always check any file after downloading by asking your anti-virus software to examine it. (Try going to the file in Windows Explorer and right-clicking on it ... often one of the options in the menu which appears is for your anti-virus to scan it. Otherwise check the help files of your anti-virus system.)

If it gets the all-clear, close any other programs that are running on your computer and double-click on the file to run it.

It goes through a normal installation routine asking you to read the licence, choose where to store the program and so on. Beware - like many free programs it will offer the chance for you to install others at the same time. Unless you really want those say no.

The default options are fine. At the end of the installation it will ask if you want to start the program at once. We usually say NO. We prefer to be sure we can start the program in the normal way.

Wow!

It is a tedious and potentially confusing process ... but websites cost money to run and since they are giving away the program it makes sense from their angle to run us past several adverts in the process. Click here to see how to use the program.

Fancy divider line.
