Report on the May 10th 2012 meeting

This report of the May, Long Island Movie Makers meeting is from Willi Eberl. My wife Pat and I returned from Arizona to Long Island a little sooner as in previous years to take care  of our lawn before the growing season has started.

It was nice to see 6 familiar faces again at our meeting. It would have preferred more, including new faces. I blamed the weather man who forecasted heavy rain, which never came and probably kept some members home.

Bob Grando opened the meeting by informing us about the balance in our account. Everyone in attendance paid the 2012-2013 dues of $15.00. Sean McGovern informed us that Eph Horowitz could not come because he is experiencing breathing problems. Eph will check in, in the New York City Presbyterian Hospital today May 10, 2012.

Bob Grando showed 4 Wally Shaw trophies to the members which I brought with me from Arizona. Mark Levy donated to our club two boxes of these trophies, which I will send to Bob Grando when I get back to Arizona in the fall of this year.

I shared experiences I made the last 6-months in Arizona backed up with videos. I showed 3 video clips. The first video was a puppet show for an audience of "Kindergarten to second grade kids" with the name Character Counts (16:45).

The video was recorded with a standard digital Canon ZR 30 camcorder and the Flip high definition camcorder. The Canon recorded the puppet stage and the Flip recorded the faces of the children.

The second video was a recording of my three grandsons with the Flip camcorder. The recording is called Desert Bicycling (8:44) I recorded the video while I was riding on my bicycle next to them. I impressed the audience the way I rode the bicycle, steering the bicycle with one hand and holding and recording my three grandsons with the other hand.

The third video was called Buckeye Air Show (6:08), this video showed old planes from the Second World War in a hanger. The video was shot with the Canon ZR 30 and narrated by a former pilot and member of the Arizona Aviation Society.

I had one more video lined up for showing, which could not be done because the remote for the DVD player did not work. We will have this problem resolved by the time of our next meeting. Doug Klemm provided chocolate candies for the audience which was very much appreciated.

Bob Grando closed the meeting at 9:30 pm with reminding every one about our contest on June 9th, 2012.
